Delicious on toast, pasta, burgers - you name it!
One of the most delicious ways to add veggie goodness to your toast! Also good on a hamburger, as a garnish for pasta, or with soup – you can’t go wrong with this simple topping.
1 large carrot, peeled & shredded
1 baby bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
4 Tbsp red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
pinch of salt
Mix all ingredients, cover and set aside for 10 minutes – this “rest” gives the flavors a chance to get to know each other. Stir a little before serving. Done!

Mowgli the Sauerkraut seller is the opposite of creepy and knows his fermented cabbage. A stuffed tub of smoked jalapeno will set you back about 6 bucks and is awesome to the last bite!
Our weekly farmers market trip brought us to Cedar Street in downtown Santa Cruz. In the hopes of finding some free-range lard for a certain bread-making experiment we discovered some other culinary interests: Farmhouse Culture, sellers of Sauerkraut, Happy Girl Kitchen’s “Yum” ketchup, and some damn fine dried Apricots from Apricot King. Seriously, those things should be illegal.
We left with the essential supplies: carrots, onion, honey and delicious tomatoes – not to mention some honey, sauerkraut and apricots. Oh right, and we got some lard too! Back to the kitchen!

So yummy, but also so dry and grainy.
Our first blog was going to be about Fudge but a failure to communicate simple recipe directions plus a cranky sleepy one-year old equaled a delicious tasting grainy brick.
